One of our HTCS 8th graders won first place in the Knights of Columbus contest which explored Catholic Citizenship. Her winning essay went on to win first in the region and in the state of Texas, as well! It can be read in the Spring 2024 Issue of our Trinitas publication.
The Knights of Columbus, founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, has emerged as a prominent fraternal organization with deep-rooted connections to the Catholic Church and the wider community. They hold an annual essay competition aiming to inspire young individuals to foster stronger connections with both their community and faith. The objective of this initiative is to engage students, specifically those in grades 8 to 12 from diverse educational backgrounds in civic discussions while imparting religious and life-affirming values. Participants are required to submit an essay ranging from 500 to 750 words, addressing a specific topic that changes biennially. Evaluation criteria include grammar, style, and the ability to articulately present the theme, emphasizing creativity, imagination, and comprehensive exploration of the chosen subject.
